Cognos Business Intelligence Success Story from MSS: Public Sector

A city government had the challenge of integrating its utility billing system city-wide with a solution to generate utility bills for its customers.

Part of the challenge for this public sector customer was to integrate a solution that would provide a zero footprint Web solution that was integrated with the existing robust security model currently in Microsoft’s Active Directory.
This solution was also supported by the utility billing system for seamless report generation.
The solution also had to be easy to maintain in the fluid technology environment of the City.

Public Sector: Solution

The public sector customer implemented a Cognos business intelligence report distribution product with on-going training and support services.
The project included installation of the product in a multi-server environment to support their organizational infrastructure.
A second phase of the solution will be to add a data mart for additional flexibility.
The delivered product easily supported all of these scenarios.
The City wanted its IT staff and other key employees to participate in the project to ensure knowledge transfer from the MSS consultants.
The project included the MSS consultants working side-by-side with the City’s staff to train them on the product until their comfort level was achieved.

Public Sector: Results

The project was completed successfully under budget, with the City now self-sufficient with the product.
The city government was provided with a comprehensive solution of product installation and training for the Cognos ReportNet product in tandem with the use of the Cognos Computer Based training materials.
Continue to receive on-going training and support services on an as-needed basis as the City continues to roll-out its new utility billing system generating pixel-perfect statements using ReportNet.
