Cloud computing is all of the rage in today’s enterprise vendor software marketplace. Companies can be successful implementing Software as a Service (SaaS) or a Cloud Solution, but only if they apply the same rigor (business requirements fit and implementation structure) as traditionally needed for historical, on-premise software solutions.
Cloud based vendors quite often pitch their solutions to business stakeholders while touting the benefit that IT will not need to be involved. The cloud based vendor perspective of not having to use IT is a fallacy due to the fact that areas such as applications integration, security and reporting still must be taken into consideration.
Similarly, factors such as planned applications growth (new users, more modules) must be factored into the Cloud based acquisition equation to avoid future cost increase surprises!
In summary, a cloud based implementation still requires the due diligence that has been required in the past for all types of enterprise vendor software applications to insure proper business alignment and to enhance the chances for a successful implementation.
