  • Why Migrate to Cognos 10

Those of us who work with IBM Cognos 8 appreciate its ability to provide what-if answers that drive customer satisfaction, growth, and profit.

Executives, for example, like its Metric Studio scorecards and Report Studio dashboards.  Other knowledge workers rely on Metric Studio, Analysis Studio, and Query Studio to get actionable information.

Many people now face the question whether they should migrate from Cognos 8 to Cognos 10.  In a nutshell, YES! People should migrate to Cognos 10 because it enables collaborative decision making by providing a more unified user interface, superior performance, and significant platform enhancements that facilitates enterprise-wide business analytics.

Let’s explore this a bit more.

    • Cognos 10 now recognizes the rising importance of social media and mobility.  It achieves social networking by integrating Lotus Connections and Business Analytics.  Active Reports allow users to receive self-contained interactive reports on e-mails and mobile devices.
    • Business Insight enables users to aggregate and organize BI with analytic and planning content within a unified interface.
    • Life Cycle Management can handle upgrades from one version to another, and run reports and queries in both Cognos 8 and Cognos 10 at the same time to compare processing differences.
    • Dynamic Query shortens the time to execute reports, queries, and cubes in the range of 30 to 40 percent.
    • Statistical Integration provides predictive modeling in a much broader business context.
